USBtinyISP is designed for AVR microcontrollers, based on a USB connector’s ISP downloader. Officially supported by the Arduino IDE and compatible with USBtinyISP, it can burn the Arduino bootloader onto chips and program any Atmel AVR microcontroller. The Tiny ISP Programmer can provide 5V power supply voltage to the target board. To power the board through the ISP, close the SJVCC jumper on the programmer board. This programmer allows uploading sketches and burning bootloaders on any AVR-based boards, including Arduino boards. Uploading a sketch with an external programmer enables removal of the bootloader to free up additional flash memory for your sketch. It can also be used to restore a corrupted bootloader. Burning the bootloader is required when using an ATmega microcontroller in an Arduino-compatible circuit and intending to upload sketches via USB-serial connection.
