In contrast to his namesake Harry, Cipriani Potter did not learn his craft at Hogwarts, but rather from renowned British composers. He later polished his skills in Vienna - above all with Ludwig van Beethoven, who without a doubt revealed some particularly effective devices. An unmistakable magic can be felt in his works. Sometimes it is his enchanting melodies, sometimes it is the dramatic energy or rhythmically urgent episodes which lend his music such magnetic appeal, that it is worth recording all of his (at least nine) symphonies and to adorn them with several smaller works. On this CD, these include the Overture to Shakespeare's Tempest and an original Concertante for piano and four strings on the popular theme La Follia, which animates Potter to create a real outburst of temperament.
